Promoting sustainable living has been an ongoing focus of the European Commission (EC). It sees integrating sustainability in education and training systems as a significant tool in transitioning to a fairer and greener economy and society. To help educators and learners in their journey to sustainable oriented knowledge and behaviors, the EC has created this GreenCom report. In the spirit of building a diverse knowledge base, a variety of experts and stakeholders were invited to contribute to GreenCom. The report provides a comprehensive framework of learning for environmental sustainability that can be applied in any learning context.

The framework includes 12 competencies organized into four areas to help learners become systemic and critical thinkers, as well as develop agency, and form a knowledge basis for everyone who cares about our planet’s present and future state.
